Travis PICKERING

PICKERING, Travis Mr. Travis Robert Pickering of Ponoka, Alberta, passed away suddenly and tragically as a result of a motor vehicle accident near Beiseker, Alberta on Saturday, October 30, 2004 at the young age of 34 years. Travis was born on January 17, 1970 at Red Deer, Alberta. At the age of eight, he and his family moved from Red Deer to Sylvan Lake, where he attended school and graduated from H. J. Cody High School. Travis graduated from Law Enforcement at Lethbridge Community College and completed his Education Diploma at Red Deer College before embarking on a Pipefitting Apprenticeship, first with Quinn Contracting at the Joffre Plant and then with Enercon Construction. He loved his work and was very proud of the direction his career was taking. Travis was an avid sports fan cheering on his Calgary Flames and the Calgary Stampeders throughout his life. He was a great athlete in all sports he participated in. His first passion was hockey which he played throughout his life. Triathlons, skiing and golf were also active pastimes. Upon entering college, he competed and medaled at the provincial level in cross country running, skiing and volleyball. He was also a family reunion Bocci Master and was even known to throw a horseshoe or two. Travis lived a life full of adventure and laughter and he shared himself with everyone he met. He was a proud Canadian and he will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him. Travis leaves to mourn his loss, his true love and best friend, Vanessa Wood of Ponoka, his parents, Wilson and Phyllis Pickering of Red Deer and Al James of Innisfail, his brother, Darin James and his sister, Jo-ann (Drew) Hammond, all of Red Deer and his grandmothers, Myrtle Matthews of Red Deer and Louise Pickering of Bentley. He will also be sadly missed by his extended family, Bruce and Carol Wood of High River and their family, his nephews and nieces, Justin, Dalen, Kelli, Krista and Dave, as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins and many dear friends. Travis was predeceased by his grandfathers, Robert Matthews, William Pickering and Albert James and his grandmother, Mary Nobbs. Relatives and friends are invited to come and pay their respects at Eventide Funeral Chapel, Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, November 5, 2004 between the hours of 12:00 and 1:00 p.m. A Celebration of TravisÕs Life will be held at Eventide Funeral Chapel, 4820 Ð 45th Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, November 5, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the Alto-Reste Cemetery, Red Deer, Alberta.
