GAIRNS, Vernon Lloyd
January 28, 1925 - May 26, 2017
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Vernon Lloyd Gairns, of Calgary, AB on May 26, 2017 at the Peter Lougheed Centre, Calgary, AB. Vern was predeceased by his parents Peter and Florence Gairns, his brother Bill Gairns, his infant son Dale Gairns, and the mother of his children, Marian Gairns. Mourning the absence his passing has left in their lives are his children: Gerry (Lynda) of Edgewood, BC, Donnette (Doug) of Lethbridge, AB, Barry of Calgary, AB, Brenda (Mickey) of Cochrane, AB and Brian of Pincher Creek, AB. Also left to mourn are his grandchildren Michael, Brent (Melissa), Tanya, Yolanda (Chris), Patrick, and Jillian (Jesse); and his great-grandchildren Mahlayah, Brooke, Taylor, Gracey, Derek, Trey, Aiden, Riley, and Annalise. Vern was devoted to his family, and he was a man who gave most generously of his time and talents to enrich the lives of others. In his younger years he was active in the United Church Laymen's Movement and the Chamber of Commerce in Pincher Creek, AB. Later he became a proud and highly involved member of the Red Deer Lions Club, where he made many wonderful friendships and enjoyed the fellowship and gratification for service to the community both local and worldwide. In that spirit of giving, if you so desire, please donate to a favorite charity of your choice. The family wish to extend their gratitude to the staff of Beaverdam Lodge, Calgary, AB for their care, kindness and support to Vern and his family over the years he resided there. We also wish to extend our thanks to the staff of Peter Lougheed Centre, Calgary, AB Emergency Department and Unit 43 for their outstanding compassionate care, kindness and expertise, which carried Vern and his family through the most trying and difficult time. A Funeral Service will be held at Pincher Creek United Church, (972 Police Ave, Pincher Creek, AB), on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Messages of remembrance may be left for the family at www.southcalgaryfuneralcentre.ca
