June 24, 2008

LANGMAID Wayne On June 17th, 2008 Wayne suddenly passed away at the age of 48 years at his home in Ettalong Beach, Australia. Wayne was raised in Red Deer, the eldest of four children to Don and Shirley Langmaid. Wayne loved to explore and his early career as a commercial diver took him to many a remote corner of the world. He lived and worked in Edmonton and Fort McMurray in the 1990's before deciding to settle permanently in Australia to pursue a career with a sport he loved, kayaking. Wayne owned and operated an ocean kayak touring company and his passion for paddling led him to locations ranging from the East and West Coasts of North America, the Canadian Arctic, and South East Asia, much of Australia, South America, Turkey and Greece. In Wayne's words, "there is still far too much of the world left to paddle". Recently Wayne was also studying towards his Bachelor of Commerce Degree. Wayne will be terribly missed by the lights of his life; his daughters Emmy, Molly, and Joely as well as their mother, Linda of Ettalong Beach, Australia. His loss will also be greatly felt by his daughter Indy and his fiancée Sandra, also of Ettalong Beach. Wayne is survived by his mother, Shirley of Red Deer, brothers Lyle (Kim) of Sylvan Lake; Cory (Shelly) of Golden, B.C. and sister Joyce (Don) of Calgary as well as many special nieces and nephews in Canada and Australia. Wayne was predeceased by his father, Don Langmaid in 1998. Funeral services were held June 24 in Australia.
