WELCH

November 5, 2005

WELCH It is with deepest sorrow and sadness that we announce the passing of a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, John Thomas (Tom) Welch. Tom passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on October 31, 2005 at the age of 72 years. Tom was born on April 1, 1933 and was raised in Tway, Saskatchewan. Tom enlisted in the Air Force at the age of 17 and served for 26 years. He then went on to spend 11 years with Corrections Canada, retiring as a Correctional Supervisor. Although he enjoyed his time in the military and Corrections Canada, it was a life-long ambition to have his own business. So, upon retirement he and his son Gordon established a local financial services company. In his younger years he was an excellent athlete, playing hockey, baseball and curling. Tom was an avid golfer and treasured the time spent with his friends at the Red Deer Golf & Country Club. Tom was a devoted family man, his family being the most important part of his life. Tom will be sorely missed by his wife, Anne, four children; Gerald (Betty) of Sylvan Lake, Glenn (Shirley) of Red Deer, Susan Hamilton of Cochrane and Gordon (Janet) of Red Deer along with his ten grandchildren. He is also survived by six siblings; Jim of Saskatoon, Pat (Ken) Getz of Birch Hills, Ruth (Vernon) LaRoche of Birch Hills, Betty Yeaman of Weyburn, Jerry (Shirley) of St. Albert and Carole Thoms of Prince Albert, one sister-in-law, Eva of Saskatoon as well as numerous nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his parents, John and Mathilda, one brother, Dick, one sister Marg Bridge, one sister-in-law, Lily Welch and two brothers-in-law, Al Yeaman and Morris Thoms. A Memorial Service will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 35 (2810 Bremner Ave) on Saturday, November 5, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the Alto-Reste Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army (4837-54 Street, Red Deer, Alberta, T4N 2G5) would greatly appreciated.
