WILKIE, Wilfred

Wilfred Rudolf Wilkie of Red Deer passed away peacefully at home on Friday, January 7, 2005 at the age of 73 years. Wilfred was born on January 31, 1931 on the farm near Meacham, Saskatchewan. He was one of fourteen children, there was a lot of fun on the Wilkie farm. When Wilfred left the farm, he worked a few odd jobs before settling down and going to work on the railroad. The railroad brought Wilfred to Alberta with his wife Marie. Three children were born of the marriage; Averil, Kurt and Blaine. Wilfred left his job with the railroad and went to work as an Institutional Aid at Michener Services. He married Lily in 1982 and the marriage to Lily brought two step children, Sandy and Corky, into the family. Wilfred worked at Michener Services for 28 years and he retired in 1987. He enjoyed fishing and travelling to local Farmer's Markets where he helped Lily sell the handy crafts they made together. Wilfred will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Lily, two sons; Kurt Wilkie of Lacombe and Blaine (Tina) Hudecek of Gull Lake, Saskatchewan, one daughter, Averil (Terry) Southern of Strathmore, one step-son, Corky Rae of Saskatoon, one step-daughter, Sandy (Jim) Kennedy of Red Deer, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters; Agnes Desmarias of Viscount, Saskatchewan, Marie Hicks of Oshawa, Ontario and Ida Graf of Humbolt, Saskatchewan, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Wilfred was predeceased by his parents, John and Ida, seven brothers; Leo, Roman, Albert, Fritz, John, George and Lawrence and three sisters; Helen, Lizzie and Ann. Those wishing to pay their respects to Wilfred Wilkie may do so at the Red Deer Funeral Home (6150 - 67 Street) on Tuesday, January 11, 2005 between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at the Red Deer Funeral Home (6150 - 67 Street) on Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Wilfred Wilkie may do so to the Heart and Stroke Foundation (101, 5208 - 53 Ave, Red Deer, Alberta, T4N 5K2).
