WILLIAM CORDON

CORDON, WILLIAM JAMES William James "Bill" Cordon passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on July 15, 2005 at the age of 83 after a lengthy illness with cancer. Bill was born at Bonnemain, Donegal, Northern Ireland on December 15, 1921. He came to Canada with his parents to the Hespero District in 1923. He attended school at Daisy Nook and Bluebell. After leaving school, he farmed with his parents and then began general trucking and eventually with two trucks went into gravel hauling. With a cat, gravel loader and crusher purchased in the 1960's he, with his son Robert, continued in the gravel business year round. Bill and his crew graveled most of the lease roads in the Eckville oil patch. They also worked several winters crushing gravel for Alberta Forestry in the Nordegg area. Bill was a devoted family man, proud of his children and tried to pass his strong work ethic on to them. He was a member of Eckville Town Council for three years and was a member of the Lions Club for several years. He has been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for eighteen years. Bill enjoyed camping and fishing, and especially ice fishing. He enjoyed travel with family in his holiday trailer and several bus tours were enjoyed. Just before his illness began, he went on a trip to Ireland with his wife and members of his family, to his birthplace and enjoyed a visit with relatives there. Bill is survived by his loving wife Hazel, three sons: Robert of Eckville, Noel of Hayward, California, Kelly of Sylvan Lake; two daughters: Nora (Florian) Hiebert of Red Deer, Sandra of Ottawa, two grandchildren: Laverne Hiebert of Calgary, Shannon Hiebert of Calgary; his sister Violet Safron of Eckville and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. One son Barry and parents John and Annie Cordon predeceased Bill. "May the road rise up to meet you, May the wind be at your back, Until we meet again, May God Hold you in the palm of His Hand" Prayers and vigil will be held at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, Sylvan Lake on Wednesday, July 20 at 7:00 P.M. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church on Thursday, July 21 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Father Victor Eze celebrant. A private family inurnment will be held at the Eckville Cemetery. There will be a Celebration of Bill's life followed by a fellowship held at the Eckville Community Centre on Thursday, July 21 at 2:00 P.M. As expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
