William MULLINS

MULLINS William Leslie Les Mullins passed away at the Lacombe Hospital and Care Centre on October 14, 2007 in Lacombe, Alberta. He was born on December 19, 1919 on his parents' (Billy & Maggie Mullins) homestead north of Tees, Alberta and attended school at Rutherford. Les joined the RCAF and served on the East Coast - Maritime Coastal Patrol in World War II. He returned to Lacombe where he met and married Mary Sharpe of Bashaw on August 25, 1946. Les loved the far north and in 1961, took his young family to Yellowknife where he started Ptarmigan Airways. In 1967, after leaving the north, he bought a Marshall - Wells Hardware Store in Ft. Saskatchewan, where the last two of his children were born. Needing to get back to working with airplanes, Les joined the Ministry of Transport as an Aircraft Accident Investigator for Alberta, North West Territories, and the Yukon. At every "stop along the trail", Dad made friends and gathered the stories that he loved to tell in later years. Les and Mary lived a full and exciting life before they retired to Lacombe in 1983. Les will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Mary of Lacombe, AB; his daughters: Faye (Lorne) Key of Calgary, AB, Maye (Ron) Davis of Courtenay, BC, June (David) Young of Sechelt, BC; his sons: Patrick (Karen) Mullins of Stony Plain, AB, Michael (Sally) Mullins of Kingston, NS, Ken (Maurine) Mullins of Edmonton, AB, Keith (Julie) Mullins of Gibbons, AB; his 15 grandchildren: Tyler, Corey, Kelly, Sean, Carl, Errin, Kris, David, Beau, Brad, Adrian, Riley, Rebekah, Steven, Shea; his 6 great grandchildren: Ashley, Jared, Hailey, Meganh, Alexus, Lyla, plus many nieces and nephews. Les was predeceased by his parents Billy & Maggie, Mullins, and his only sister Olive Thomas. Funeral Services will be held at St. Andrew's United Church, 5226-51 Avenue, Lacombe, AB on Thursday, October 18, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow in the Earlville Rutherford Cemetery.
