With JEGLUM

June 3, 2006

JEGLUM With her family by her side in the Community Health Centre, Lacombe, AB, Dorothy Edith Jeglum passed away peacefully on May 31, 2006 at the age of 91 years. Born to Clara and Percy Cull in Lacombe, AB, "Dot" was raised southeast of Lacombe in the Spring Valley district. After their marriage in 1937, she and Howard Jeglum raised their three children on the family farm in the Westling district north of Clive. In 1968, they moved to Vernon, B.C., where she resided until the spring of 1999, when she moved back to Lacombe. Active in the communities where she resided, Dot was a member of the Westling Chatelaine Club, and was awarded a lifetime membership when she moved to Vernon. She was always quick to volunteer if a driver was needed for sports and school events for her family and their friends. During her years in Vernon, she was awarded an Honorary Membership Award in recognition for her outstanding service and devotion to the Vernon Senior Citizens Recreational Society. In 1998, she was commemorated for 25 years of service to the Halina Seniors Centre in Vernon, BC, where she had served in all capacities on their board, and was a co- coordinator of the Centre for several years. She was also one of the two organizers of the B.C. Senior Summer Games when they were hosted in Vernon. Forever full of energy, Dot always grew a large garden and beautiful flowers. She spent hours sewing and doing handicrafts. She loved participating in local events such as dances, card games and bingos. She was willing to try anything and played many sports, such as curling, bowling, ball, bocci ball and pool. She participated in the Alberta Senior Summer Games in pool in 1999, coming in 7th in her division, and bowled in Lacombe until April 2005. She is now held in the loving arms of our family who have gone before: husband Howard, brothers Gordon and Don and grandchildren Connie Johnson and Andy Jeglum. She will be sadly missed by her family: son Garry and his wife Gladys, son Rod and his wife Anna, all of Clive; daughter Donna Johnson and her husband Stan of Tees; 10 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; two sisters, Alice Reiter and husband Francis of Lacombe and Muriel Dodd and husband Bob of Red Deer, and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Andrew’s United Church, 5226 - 51st Ave., Lacombe, AB on Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at 7:00 pm, with Mrs. Shealagh McClelland D.M. officiating. If friends desire, Memorial tributes may be made to STARS, Building 16, 29 Airport Rd., Edmonton AB T5J 0W6.
