WOOD - FREDERICK JAMES 1919 - 2007 Fred passed away suddenly on May 30, 2007 at the age of 88 years in Red Deer, Alberta. He was born on January 4, 1919 in Walthamstow, England. His family moved to the Elnora District of Alberta in 1924. He worked as a farm labourer and steel worker until he enlisted with The Canadian Armed Forces and served with the Sherbrooke Fusiliers. He met his bride Irene Adele Trumble in the summer of 1945 and they were married in December 1945. They were blessed with 5 children, 2 boys and 3 girls. Fred farmed in Ontario and Alberta. He also worked with the Corp. of Commissionaires at the Penhold Bunker for 20 years before retiring in 1984. He loved to do woodworking projects and every family member has a toy chest or a sand bag game. He was a very kind, gentle man who was very proud of his family and was always there to help out with whatever needed to be done. His favourite pastime was travelling with his holiday trailer to visit his family and friends all across Canada. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 61 years, Irene, his children; Linda (Robert) Edgar, Dan (Sheryle) Wood, Chris (Kim) Wood, Karen (Bob) Malsbury and Myrna (Rory) Watson as well as his 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Those wishing to pay their respects to Mr. Fred Wood can do so at the Gaetz Memorial United Church (4758 Ross Street) on Saturday, June 2, 2007 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. A Funeral Service will follow at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2007 with Reverend Doctor Fran Hare officiating. Interment will follow at the Alto-Reste Cemetery.
