“Police kill man” – published on in the Advocate on Oct. 20th makes me wonder if your editors ever actually read your headlines, and think about what they are saying. In this case, it reads like the police just shot and killed some poor hard-working father on his way to work rather than the police removing violent, criminal.

How about taking into consideration the police officer (s) who had to deal with a situation like this, their lives have changed forever? Not only do they have to live with this in their heads, they are under scrutiny by the force, ASIRT, the justice system, and the court of public opinion, usually lead by the media. How about putting on the big boots of a police officer and trying to do their job when they are constantly getting slammed for their actions from every direction. I can tell you one thing for certain – you will never fit into those boots. But what you can do, is try being a little more compassionate towards them and realize that they are people like you and I, tasked with a very serious and dangerous job of trying to keep our streets safe. They need our support and help – Let’s give it to them.
