Recently, I spent almost two months in the Red Deer Regional Hospital. The nurses were phenomenal, the doctors terrific, and the support staff did a great job.
However, they have to work their best under difficult circumstances. Patients have to be moved, sometimes several times to free beds for new patients. Men and women have to share a room which is confusing for older people. Since there are inadequate storage areas, equipment has to be be placed in the hallways. Some of the rooms that were designated as storage have been turned into patients’ rooms. I’m sure the staff could give you more examples.
We need another hospital! The Red Deer Regional Hospital is aging and is not large enough to meet the needs of the region it serves. Frequently, there was an announcement that the hospital was operating over capacity.
Red Deer needs another hospital!
