Edmonton Oilers coach Tom Renney misses game after getting hit by puck
TORONTO — Edmonton Oilers coach Tom Renney missed Monday night’s game at Air Canada Centre after taking a puck in the side of the head at the morning skate.
A team spokesman said Renney was experiencing headaches and remained at the team hotel while the Oilers faced the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Associate coach Ralph Krueger took over in his place.
The Oilers opened a three-game road trip in Toronto that will take them to Detroit and Ottawa later in the week.
Renney was injured Monday morning when a pass deflected off a stick and hit him in the side of the head. He was cut and required stitches.
It’s the first Oilers game Renney has missed since being hired before the 2010-11 season.
