Medals for Catalinas
Red Deer Catalina Swim Club athletes David Errington and Bryan Iliscupidez won silver and bronze, respectively, in the men’s 200-metre breaststroke event of the OSC JP Fiset meet in Edmonton during the weekend.
Meanwhile, Amy Andrew achieved a national age group time in the 50m butterfly and a western national time in the 100 ‘fly, and new provincial qualifying times were posted by Kirstin Stayer in the 12-year-old 400m individual medley and Mady Smith in the 11-year-old 50, 100 and 200m breaststroke.
Emma MacDermaid and Emma Smith, both 11, Kristen Trepanier,10, and nine-year-old Rebecca Smith achieved personal best times in all of their events. Rebecca Smith also posted the fastest times in Alberta for 10 and under girls while competing in the 12 and under 100, 200 and 400m freestyle events.
Men's Basketball
Mark Jensen dropped in 23 points to lead the Vonway Homes Vikings to a 75-62 win over the Burnt Lake Stables Stallions in Central Alberta Senior Men’s Basketball Association action.
Bowman Rockarts scored 22 points for the Stallions.
Women's Basketball
Eliza Lewis netted 12 points and Marily Judson contributed 11 as Wild Bill’s beat the Storm 52-49 in North Star Women’s Basketball League play on Monday.
Becky Perrin led the Storm with 16 points, while Brooke Lazzarotto added 12.
In other games:
• Carla Stewart pumped in 22 points as RDC Royal posted a 64-24 victory over Funk.
• RDC Black got 21 points from Brittany Mabbot in a 67-23 thumping of Riff Raff. Candace Stamp scored seven in a losing cause.
• The Spartans, with Carla Lauchman pouring in 25 points, defeated Triple Threat 56-39. Tamara Steer had nine for the losers.
• The Hot Shots, with Veronica DenOudsten scoring 23 points and Jill Potts and Erica Pottage adding 19 apiece, knocked off North Star 74-55 in a battle of undefeated teams. For North Star, Nadine Cunningham netted 17 points and Denise Vanson chipped in with 14.
