Dodd takes jump event at World Cup event in Russia
DUBNA, Russia — Ryan Dodd of Olds captured the jump event at the International Waterski Federation’s first World Cup event of the season.
The 24 year-old leaped 67.1-metres in the finals, which earned him a tie with Jaret Llewellyn of Innisfail, forcing a sudden death jump-off.
Dodd delivered a solid jump of 66.4m jump while Llewellyn hit the ramp too fast and crashed. He was not seriously injured.
It was the first victory of the season for Dodd, who was the Mastercraft Pro Tour champion last season.
It also gave him a lift as he prepared for the world championships, set for Aug. 3-9 in Calgary.
“It’s been my goal for over a year now to win the jump event in Calgary.
“I never let myself get too discouraged about my results so far this year and my win today was a huge morale booster. I’m feeling really confident that I can win in my own backyard next month” said Dodd in a press release.
Dodd was also fourth in the shortboard tricks event.
• Edmonton will play host to this year’s Canadian championships from August 14-16.
