Marlins take team title in Ponoka

PONOKA — The Red Deer Marlins Swim Club captured the team title at the annual Ponoka Gators swim meet during the weekend.

The Marlins came home with nine aggregate medals, including gold by Sydney Wall in the girls’ 15-16 year-old division.

Wall won the 100-metre freestyle in one minute, 9.85 seconds, the 50 freestyle in 31.20 seconds and the 50 butterfly in 34.30 seconds. She was also second in the 100 breaststroke.

Kahn Daviduck (13-14 year-old boys), Catherine Alcorn (13-14 year-old girls), Sefrah Daviduck (11-12 year-old girls) and Brendan Laing (seven-eight year-old boys) all won silver medals.

Kahn Daviduck won the 100 breaststroke in 1:24.25 while taking second in the 50 butterfly and 100 backstroke and third in the 200 Individual Medley.

Alcorn captured the 100 butterfly in 1:15.38 and the 200 I.M. in 2:46.69 while finishing second in the 100 backstroke and fourth in the 50 butterfly.

Sefrah Daviduck won the 100 freestyle in 1:13.20 and the 50 breaststroke in 45.01 seconds and was second in the 50 freestyle and third in the 100 I.M.

Laing was second in the 25 butterfly and 100 I.M. and third in the 25 breaststroke and 50 freestyle.

Four other athletes — Jennifer Engler (15-16 year-old girls), Hayley Goring (17-and-over girls), Amy Andrew (13-14 year-old girls) and Jane Gosling (seven-eight year-old girls) — finished third overall.

Engler won the 15-and-over 100 butterfly in 1:21.98 while taking second in the 15-16 year-old 200 I.M., third in the 50 butterfly and fifth in the 100 backstroke.

Goring placed second in the 50 freestyle, 100 backstroke and 50 butterfly and fourth in the 100 freestyle.

Andrew won the 100 freestyle in 1:05.91 while finishing second in the 50 butterfly and 50 freestyle and third in the 14-and-under 100 butterfly.

Gosling took second in the 25 breaststroke and third in the 25 freestyle, 100 I.M. and 25 butterfly. Jillian Engler won the 13-14 year-old girls’ 100 breaststroke in 1:25.50 while Erika Stewart won the 17-and-over girls’ 100 breaststroke in 1:29.34.

Girls: Rebecca Miller, 14-and-under, 100 ‘fly; Erika Stewart, 17-and-over, 100 free.

Boys: Geordan Andrew, 14-and-under, 100 ‘fly; Adrian Christ, 13-14, 100 breast; Quinn Daviduck, 15-and-over, 100 ‘fly.

Third

Girls: Taylor Laing, 9-10, 25 ‘fly; Rebecca Miller, 13-14, 50 ‘fly, 100 free; Rebecca Statchuk, 13-14, 100 breast.

Boys: Adrian Christ, 13-14, 100 free; Quinn Daviduck, 15-16, 50 ‘fly, 100 free.
