Pair of Rebels get high draft rankings

Red Deer Rebels defenceman Haydn Fleury is No. 6 among North American skaters eligible for the 2014 NHL entry draft, according to the Central Scouting Service mid-term rankings.

Meanwhile, Rebels top-scoring forward and captain Conner Bleackley is ranked 31st. Both Red Deer players will compete in Wednesday’s CHL Top Prospects Game at the Calgary Saddledome.

Prince Albert Raiders forward Leon Draisaitl is the top-ranked WHL player at No. 2, while other WHL skaters in the top 20 include forward Sam Reinhart of the Kootenay Ice (No. 4), Calgary Hitmen forward Jake Virtanen (ninth), and Swift Current Broncos defencemen Julius Honka (13th), and Brycen Martin (20th).

Meanwhile, Ty Edmonds of the Prince George Cougars is the top-ranked North American goaltender for the 2014 entry draft, at No. 8. Other WHL netminders ranked among the top 30 are Austin Lotz of the Everett Silvertips (11th), Justin Paulic of the Moose Jaw Warriors (13th), Hayden Lavigne of the Tri-City Americans (15th); Alex Moodie of the Saskatoon Blades (24th), Alec Dillon of the Victoria Royals (26th) and Landon Bow of Swift Current (29th).
