Red Deer’s Mazurkewich to play baseball at Montana State University

Red Deer’s Joel Mazurkewich is among five players to sign to play baseball at Montana State University next season.

Mazurkewich, who plays centre field, played with the Vauxhall baseball academy where he had a .404 batting average, 38 hits and 24 RBIs during his junior year, helping the team to a 32-5 record.

The Red Deer Minor Baseball product was a member of Team Alberta for four years and helped them win Western Canada Summer Games gold medal in 2011 and bronze in 2013.

“I chose MSU because I like the work coach (Rob) Bishop is doing with the program,” he said in a news release.

“With his expertise this program will allow me to become a better player.”

“Joel is a true centre-fielder who plays the game fast,” said Bishop in a release. “He’s scrappy at the plate and is a guy that we would like to see the top of the order when he’s ready.

“Adding him to our program will definitely improve our overall team speed on the bases and defensively.”
