Thunder Country wins gold at National Cup

AIRDRIE — Four members of the Red Deer Thunder Country Trampoline and Gymnastics Club won gold in the National Cup at the Alberta Cup national and provincial level invitational meet during the weekend.

Kyle Soehn won the international senior men’s trampoline and was third in the double-mini trampoline (DMT) while Kalena Soehn was first in the international women’s Espoir DMT and third in trampoline.

Madeline Potter won the national U18 women’s trampoline title and was second in DMT while Logan Chaput took first in the national U18 men’s trampoline while finishing third in the DMT.

Keegan Soehn was second in both divisions in the international senior men’s category while Zachary Blakely was second in international men’s Espoir trampoline and national U18 DMT. Alexandra Potter placed second in the national U18 women’s trampoline and was fourth in the DMT.

Kyle and Keegan Soehn won the senior men’s synchronized trampoline while Kalena Soehn and Madeline Potter were first in the national women’s synchronized trampoline.

Chaput and Blakely also won the national men’s synchronized title.

Meanwhile in the provincial division, Ashton Henfrey was a triple medalist, capturing gold in the provincial 2 men’s trampoline and DMT and bronze in the provincial 1 tumbling.

Sam Peters won the provincial 3 men’s trampoline to go with a second in the DMT and fourth in provincial 2 tumbling.

Calvin Burton placed third in the provincial 3 men’s trampoline, fourth in DMT and third in provincial 2 tumbling.

Evan Burton was third in the provincial 3 DMT and seventh in trampoline.

Henfrey and Calvin Burton won the provincial 2 synchronized trampoline title while Laura Arnusch and Lauren Howse won the provincial 3 title.

Evan Burton and Sam Peters captured the provincial men’s synchronized title while Brooke Hutchinson and Amarissa Unreiner took second in the provincial 1 women’s division.

The club also won two bronze medals in the synchronized trampoline ­— Maria Crichton and Isabelle MacPherson in the provincial 2 women’s competition and Kaeleigh Boston and Sarah Lindbergh in the provincial 1 women’s category.

Other individual top 10 finishers in the provincial competition were:


Provincial 1: Isabelle MacPherson, seventh tumbling. Brooke Hutchinson, ninth trampoline. Samantha Dancey, sixth, DMT; eighth trampoline. Kaeleigh Boston, sixth trampoline.

Provincial 2: Lauren Howse, 10th tumbling. Isabelle MacPherson, sixth trampoline; ninth DMT. Maria Crichton, fifth trampoline.

Provincial 3: Laura Arnusch, fourth DMT. Lauren Howse, ninth trampoline.


Provincial 1: Jesse Starchuk, sixth trampoline.

Provincial 2: Everett Dool, eighth, trampoline and DMT.
