Van Dornick takes top honours at provincial men’s mid-am

ATHABASCA — Frank Van Dornick of Camrose posted his second straight under-par score Thursday to take top honours in the Alberta Men’s Mid-Amateur Golf Championship.

Van Dornick fired a 2-under 70 and coupled with earlier rounds of 73-71, finished the 54-hole tournament with a 214 total, five strokes better than Harry Aime of Edmonton Glendale (78-71-70—219) and seven up on Kevin Temple of Calgary Country Hills (75-76-70—221).

Tim Boston of Wolf Creek tied for eighth with a 226 total that included a final-round 75 and earlier scores of 72-79, while Lorne Riffin of Lacombe tied for 12th with a 228 sum after carding a final-round 73 that followed first- and second-round scores of 75-80.

Other Central Alberta results:

Tom Skinner, Red Deer Golf and Country Club (78-77-79—234, tied for 27th); Ron Harder, Innisfail (79-81-75—235, tied for 30th); Les Swelin, Sundre (81-81-83—245, tied for 52nd); Gerald Tardif, Wolf Creek (84-83-80—247, tied for 56th).
