Golf season has finally arrived in central Alberta.

While Balmoral Golf Course opened last Saturday to the public, a few others are close to opening as the remaining snow continues to melt.

Both Meadowlands Golf Club in Sylvan Lake and Wolf Creek Golf Course also opened as early as last week.

River Bend Golf and Recreation Area is set to open on Tuesday, April 23, and general manager Rob MacPherson said the course is in good shape heading into the spring.

“It actually came through the winter very well. The greens wintered well even with the lack of snowfall. It’s a little dry but hopefully we’ll get some rain soon to help spruce things up before we get the irrigation started,” he said.

“Overall course conditions will open up and be very good.”

Those interested will be able to book tee times at River Bend starting Friday at 7 p.m. and they anticipate to be very busy.

“By next we’ll be full, it doesn’t take long. Golfers are really looking forward to getting going. We’ve got a very avid pass-holder base.”

The Red Deer Golf and Country Club has yet to set an opening day but believe it’ll be sometime next week. Spirit Creek Golf and RV Park are also in a similar situation but are hoping to be ready to open by Saturday, April 27.

Meanwhile, golfers looking to hit the links at Lacombe Golf and Country Club Will be able to on Friday, April 19 and Alberta Springs Golf Resort will officially open on Monday, April 22.

Lakewood Golf Resort in Sylvan Lake will also be open to the public by Tuesday, April 23 and those interested can book tee times immediately. The resort is featuring a new look moving from a nine-hole course to a full 18-hole course.
