Dumba scores twice in Rebels' win

ST. ALBERT — Defenceman Matt Dumba, 15, notched two goals and netminders Darcy Kuemper and Kraymer Barnstable shared a shutout as the Red Deer Rebels downed the Moose Jaw Warriors 3-0 in a Western Hockey League preseason game on Saturday at Servus Place.

John Persson also scored for the Rebels, while Cass Mappin and Mason Burr, 15, each added two assists. Kuemper turned aside 20 shots and Barnstable made 17 saves.

Warriors netminder Deven Dubyk blocked 23 of 26 shots and teammate Jeff Bosch stopped all seven shots he faced.

The Rebels return to preseason action on Wednesday against the Calgary Hitmen at Centennial Arena in Calgary.

In other exhibition action, Red Deer will take on the Edmonton Oil Kings at Stettler on Friday and at Leduc 24 hours later. The Rebels will also face the Kootenay Ice on Sept. 11 at Innisfail and will take on the Hitmen Sept. 12 at Lacombe.

The Red Deer Advocate regular-season home-opener is Sept. 18 versus the Hitmen.
