ORLANDO, Fla. — Canadian forward Tesho Akindele was traded to Orlando City SC on Sunday by FC Dallas in exchange for US$100,000 of targeted allocation money in 2019 and $50,000 of general allocation money in 2020.

Akindele, 26, entered the league in 2014 after being selected by FC Dallas with the sixth overall pick in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft.

In his first season in MLS, Akindele appeared in 26 matches with 18 starts, scoring seven times and adding three assists in his rookie campaign.

The Calgary native started in three playoff matches for FC Dallas and recorded his first career playoff goal in a 2-1 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps.

After a breakout season, Akindele would go on to win MLS Rookie of the Year in 2014, the first in FC Dallas history.

The Canadian and U.S. national has earned 14 caps and scored twice for the Canada’s national team. Akindele scored his first international goal in the second leg of the World Cup Qualifying match against Dominica in just his second appearance for Canada.
