Following a pair of Western Hockey League lotteries on Wednesday the Red Deer Rebels will select 15th overall in both the WHL Prospects Draft and the U.S. Priority Draft.

In the WHL Prospects Draft, the Rebels will also select 37th overall in the second round. Last summer the Rebels selected forward Beckett Hamilton 18th overall in 2023 and defenceman Luke Vlooswyk 17th overall in the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft.

This year the Everett Silvertips won the first overall selection in the draft lottery after acquiring the pick from the Kamloops Blazers in a trade last year. The first round is scheduled to be streamed on CHL TV on Thursday, May 9.

Landon Dupont, a 14-year-old defenceman out of Calgary, is expected to be the first overall selection after scoring 62 points in 30 games with the U18 Prep Team at Edge School.

In the U.S. Priority Draft, which is slated to take place on Wednesday, May 8, the Rebels will select 15th and 37th overall.

The Regina Pats were awarded the first overall selection followed by the Seattle Thunderbirds, Calgary Hitmen, Tri-City Americans, and Edmonton Oil Kings.

The Rebels have had plenty of success in the U.S. Draft taking forward Jeramiah Roberts 14th overall in 2022 and defenceman Quentin Bourne eighth overall in 2021. Both of those players are currently on the Rebels roster.
