Sundre rodeo chock full of cowboy, cowgirl action

The 38th Annual Sundre Rodeo is set for the weekend and the biggest cowboys and cowgirls are once again coming to town.

Action gets underway Friday night with the first performance at 7 p.m.

Central Alberta will be well represented in the Friday draw with Jim Berry of Rocky Mountain House taking to the area in the Saddle Bronc and Cole Jamieson of Innisfail in the bareback. Local cowboy Travis Warburton will compete in bull riding as well as Cylas Bigchild of Rocky Mountain House.

Season leader in Canada Professional Rodeo Association standings in the saddle bronc Layton Green will ride in the Saturday afternoon performance.

Ky Marshall will also just ride once on Saturday night in bareback, he leads the way in the CPRA this season so far. Two time Canadian bareback champion Jake Vold will also be in the mix on Saturday.

Garrett Green leads the way in the CPRA standings by a large margin in bull riding, he’ll ride Saturday night. The second ranked rider on the CPRA is Tyler Pankewitz, and he’s set to compete on Saturday afternoon. Zane Lambert, the Ponoka cowboy who pretty much wins where ever he goes on the Canadian rodeo circuit will ride Sunday.

The Saturday afternoon draw starts at 1 p.m. and with the second draw of the day started at 7 p.m.

Sunday the only draw of the day goes off at 1 p.m.
