Gravel is dropped to hold down tarps protecting the foundation of a hotel and conference centre being developed on the north side of the Olds College campus on Wednesday.

Pomeroy Inn & Suites at Olds College will consist of a four-storey building with 83 suites, a large conference centre, a restaurant and lounge, and a swimming pool with a water slide.

Expected to cost between $12 million and $14 million, the facilities will also serve as a teaching centre for the college’s new Canadian Institution for Rural Entrepreneurship, which will focus on areas like local food production, rural hospitality management, farm food sales and tourism. Grande Prairie-based Pomeroy Group is developing the project in conjunction with Olds College.
