BRANDON, Man. — The union that represents striking professors at Brandon University says it’s scaled back wage demands, but the university is refusing to budge on its numbers.

The professors are entering the second week of their strike, with their faculty association saying there appears to be no resolution in sight.

Bill Paton, an association spokesman, says the organization believes only three of its 240 members have crossed the picket lines and gone back to work. The conciliator has gone back to Winnipeg and no further talks have been scheduled.

Paton says the conciliator will return if the two sides have anything new to offer.

Paton says only a few students have shown up for classes held by professors who have gone back.

The union is accusing the university of unfair labour practice by inviting professors through emails to return to work, but administrators say that’s standard notice so students know which classes are available.

Student leaders are asking professors who cross their own picket lines to guarantee they won’t penalize students who refuse to cross.
