Canada Post faces questions about mail contract

A British Columbia company is taking some heat over its five-year, $100-million-plus contract to fly Canada Post regular mail.

KELOWNA — A British Columbia company is taking some heat over its five-year, $100-million-plus contract to fly Canada Post regular mail.

Canada Post awarded the contract to Kelowna Flightcraft without going to tender, and New Democrat MP David Christopherson has protested saying the move doesn’t “pass the smell test.”

Flightcraft human resources director Grant Stevens said they’ve had the contract for nine months.

“It’s come to light and become contentious because Cargo Jet, who bid against us and lost for the Purolator Courier contract, made a fuss and now an NDP MP is making some noise, too,” said Stevens.
