Canada’s GM salaried workers to get bonuses

TORONTO — General Motors has confirmed its salaried employees in Canada and United States will get performance bonuses this year.

GM spokesman Jason Easton says its 1,600 Canadian salaried employees of the automaker will get between four and 16 per cent of their salaries as a bonus.

Unionized employees paid on an hourly basis rather than on salary will not get profit-sharing bonuses under their collective agreements.

Easton says the company did better than expected this year and that’s why the bonuses are being issued.

He says the total value of the bonuses in Canada depends on base salaries.

GM’s American division is paying out $189-million in profit sharing to thousands of salaried workers in that country.
