The deputy reeve of Mountain View County has been recognized for his contributions to the dairy industry.

Bruce Beattie, who farms near Sundre, recently received the 2010 Dairy Industry Achievement Award. Presented by Alberta Milk, it is given annually to an individual or organization that has made substantial contributions to Alberta’s dairy industry.

Hennie Bos, chairman of Alberta Milk, said in a news release that the Dairy Industry Achievement Award is his organization’s most respected award.

“Bruce has played an integral role in the development of the prosperous dairy industry we see today,” said Bos.

Beattie’s background includes service on the Red Deer milk producers board and what is now the Alberta Milk board of directors. He’s worked on 17 committees within or on behalf of Alberta Milk and contributed to the development of the Western Milk Pool, said the release.

Producers, processors, academics and members of government agencies or industries affiliated with dairy are eligible to win the Dairy Industry Achievement Award, which dates back to 1940.

Alberta Milk represents the province’s 600 dairy producers.
