Derailment blocks traffic on CN’s northern line

MCBRIDE, B.C. — A coal car derailment in northeastern British Columbia is blocking east-west rail traffic on Canadian National’s northern line. CN (TSX:CNR) says 33 coal cars on a westbound train derailed Sunday night just south of McBride. The corporation says no one was injured and the derailment has not caused any environmental damage. Rail traffic to and from Prince Rupert is being affected.

Rail traffic to and from Prince Rupert is being affected. Crews are on scene at the remote location but there is no immediate word on when rail traffic through the area will resume. CN says it isn’t sure what caused the derailment.
