Farm hazard workshop set

Few job sites have the wide mix of dangers that farm workers face every day, including an array of toxic chemicals, heavy equipment, power tools and cranky livestock.

Safe Communities Central Alberta will host a workshop at Olds College on Thursday, April 29, to help young farm workers identify hazards and learn to deal with the risky tasks they perform.

Participants will learn techniques for the safe handling of large animals, using fire extinguishers, the use and storage of chemicals, completing a farm hazard assessment and vehicle handling, including tractors and ATVs.

Included in the workshop will be a mock injury scenario to illustrate the emergency response systems available in rural Alberta, as well as tips on giving CPR.

Registration is open to young farm workers aged 14 and up, and the people who supervise them.

The registration fee is $35 per person. Students enrolled in the Green Certificate Program through their high school can get in for free.
