The Fields stores in Red Deer and Eckville have undergone a makeover that includes their rebranding as Fields Dollar Depots.

The Central Alberta retail outlets, and their sister stores in High Prairie and Valleyview, have received new interior decors and an expanded range of products — including more national brands, dairy items and frozen convenience foods.

“It totally looks different,” said Red Deer store manager Rhonda Quantz.

“We have a wider selection. Especially in the food, we’ve got any kind of cereal you want now.”

The local stores closed the final week of April to make the changes, which are currently being completed, said Quantz. An official reopening is planned for this Saturday.

Six other Fields stores in Alberta and British Columbia underwent a similar transformation in April.

Founded in Vancouver 60 years ago, Fields expanded across Western Canada before being acquired by Zellers in 1976. Both brands came under the ownership of Hudson’s Bay Co. soon after.

Fields now operates as Hudson’s Bay’s “extreme value” banner, with more than 175 outlets Canadawide.
