TORONTO — Five things to watch for in the Canadian business world in the coming week:
The Bank of Canada will release its business outlook survey and its Canadian survey of consumer expectations on Monday. The reports come as the central bank prepares for its next interest rate announcement and monetary policy report on April 13.
Home sales figures for two of the country’s most expensive real estate markets are expected this week. The Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver releases its March sales results on Monday and the Toronto Regional Real Estate Board releases its numbers on Tuesday.
Three of Canada’s big banks will hold their annual meetings this week. Scotiabank will hold its annual gathering of shareholders on Tuesday, followed by RBC and CIBC on Thursday.
Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland will bring down her budget on Thursday. The budget will be the first since the federal election last year that saw the Liberals returned with their second minority mandate.
Statistics Canada will release its labour force survey for March on Friday. The country’s job market gained 337,000 jobs in February to more than offset a loss of 200,000 jobs in January and reduced the unemployment rate to 5.5 per cent.
