Emmanuel David, the executive chef at the new Holiday Inn & Suites Red Deer South in Gasoline Alley, readies rice for lunch Thursday.

David, who has won gold and silver medals in international culinary competitions and once cooked for Queen Elizabeth II, is responsible for the new hotel’s Boulevard Restaurant & Lounge, as well as its banquet facilities.

The 114-room hotel opened this week with a ballroom, pool and waterslide, fitness area and other amenties.

It’s owned and operated by Zainul & Shazma Holdings (1997) Ltd., which also operates the Holiday Inn Express outlets in Red Deer and Rocky Mountain House, and other Holiday Inn properties in Edson and Hinton.
