Lacombe County proposes changes to regulate RV resorts

Lacombe County has proposed new bylaw changes to prevent RV resorts from becoming over-developed.

Lacombe County has proposed new bylaw changes to prevent RV resorts from becoming over-developed.

Under proposed land use bylaw amendments, only 40 per cent of an RV lot can be covered by an RV and an accessory building, down from 65 per cent in previous bylaws.

Also, only one accessory building, such as a shed or garage, will be allowed on a lot. It size is restricted to 250 square feet.

Basements will also be prohibited in RV resorts to discourage residents from treating their seasonal homes as permanent dwellings.

Other changes boost the maximum height of RVs to 5.36 metres from 3.65 metres.

The maximum height of accessory buildings was boosted to 4.57 metres from 3.05 metres.

Council approved first reading of the bylaw amendments last Thursday.
