Mid-Alta moving

An auto repair business that operated in Red Deer for 35 years has left the city — although not by much.

Mid-Alta Motors Ltd. has set up shop in Clearview Industrial Park on Red Deer’s southern outskirts. It made the move from its former location at 2319 Taylor Dr. last Monday.

Don McIntosh, president and general manager of the family-owned and -operated business, said the primary motivation for the change was the opportunity for Mid-Alta to buy its own premises. He added the bay also provides it with a more efficient layout.

The site has so far proven accessible for customers, said McIntosh, noting Mid-Alta was somewhat hidden from view previously.

Founded in 1975, Mid-Alta began as a small automobile repair shop but has since expanded into other areas, including motorhome chassis repairs. It’s also a National Car Rentals outlet and sells used vehicles.

Over the years, the business’s address remained relatively constant.

“We were in the same complex,” said McIntosh. “Just two different buildings.”

In addition to McIntosh and his wife, Marlene, the couple’s daughter, Sheryl, and son, Keith, are also involved.

Located at No. 172, 37428 RR 273, Mid-Alta’s new bay is in a 22,500-square-foot industrial condominium developed by Mike George.

Four of the building’s 11 bays are available said George. Other business’s operating there include A&P Cleaning Solutions, Target Safety Services and Property Solutions (2006) Ltd., in which George is a partner.

Property Solutions moved to the industrial park from an office downtown in November.
