Sandra Farthing, integrated hardware clerk at Red Deer Co-op’s Deer Park store, displays one of the reusable and recyclable produce bags that her store has introduced.

The Canadian-made mesh bags can be used for produce and bulk goods, said Farthing, and are an alternative to the thin plastic bags used in most grocery stores.

They are sold for $4.99 for eight bags, and might be added at the Co-op’s other grocery stores in Red Deer and Lacombe.
