Notley signals small business tax cut coming in April 14 budget

Alberta Premier Rachel Notley is signalling that a tax break for small business owners may be coming in the budget.

EDMONTON — Alberta Premier Rachel Notley is signalling that a tax break for small business owners may be coming in the budget.

When asked today by reporters about the possibility of a tax cut, Notley responded that Albertans should look to the 2016-17 budget.

The budget comes out April 14.

A small business tax deduction was one of the 12 planks put forward by the Wildrose party earlier in the day in its new jobs plan.

At three per cent, the tax is the highest among the four western provinces.

The Wildrose says a one percentage point cut equalled $150 million in revenue in good times, but says the cut would help an economy that has seen more than 80,000 jobs lost due to low oil prices.
