EDMONTON — Dozens of nurses, health care aides, kitchen and housekeeping staff have taken to the picket line at an Edmonton retirement village.

Members of the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees are trying to get a first contract with the Revera Retirement Living facility.

Union spokesman Erez Raz says the workers have been putting up with unfair conditions for a long time and have said enough is enough.

Revera Inc., an Ontario-based company, says it is disappointed the union has decided to take this course of action.

The company says it’s last offer was fair, competitive and reasonable.
