A longtime Red Deer College supporter has stepped up to assist business students.

Collins Barrow Red Deer has made a $125,000 contribution to the college’s campaign of raising funds to ease the financial burden on students.

The donation is directed towards a scholarship endowment, supporting the Donald School of Business and a five-year sponsorship package of the Building Communities Through Learning Campaign.

An audit and advisory firm, Collins Barrow has supported the college for about 25 years with more than $175,000 in donations.

“We are excited about the huge opportunities this donation will provide our future business students,” said Joanne Packham, dean of the Donald School.

She said the college is thankful for the support.

“We are grateful to Collins Barrow for their investment in the future of the college,” she added.

The college will use $50,000 of the donation to create the Collins Barrow Endowment.

This will allow for a chartered accountant scholarship to be awarded to one college student yearly.

The student who receives the scholarship will receive $1,500 toward tuition. Students entering full-time studies in the third year of a planned college collaborative business degree program will be eligible.

Collins Barrow partner Rob Kolton said giving to the college means giving back to the community.
