The Red Deer Advocate swept all three prizes in the special supplement category in national newspaper awards in Toronto last week.

Three Advocate advertising promotions garnered first, second and third prizes in the small markets category for special sections. That category is reserved for daily newspapers in the under 25,000 circulation category.

The first prize was for Think Green, a spring supplement that focused on City of Red Deer environmental initiatives and information for local citizens.

Second prize was for Things to Do In Central Alberta, a May supplement that gave readers a listing of activities thru the summer. Third prize was for Powersports, a March section focused on motorized equipment including motorcycles, ATVs and boats.

The awards were among more than 60 presented during Newspapers Canada Great Idea Awards 2012. The awards reward the best in Canadian newspaper marketing, promotions, advertising, special sections, magazines and digital innovation.
