Mike Hensley extracts oil and freon from an old refrigerator before it is recycled using equipment which is the only fully robotic recycling system in the United States, at JACO Environmental in Stow, Ohio on Friday, May 27, 2011. The company has developed a system that chops up the old appliances, sorts out the plastics and metals, and then turns them into clean industrial feedstock for new manufacturing. The oil is also recycled and the freon is destroyed. Within specific guidelines, First Energy is offering customers in Ohio a rebate to turn in their old working refrigerators, freezers and window air conditioners to be recycled at the facility.
