Scrappage scheme

Britain’s Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Business Secretary Peter Mandelson talk with a potential car buyer at a car dealership in north London, Monday, on the day the government introduced a “scrappage” scheme, which it claims will be a great help to the recession-hit British vehicle industry. The scheme allows owners of cars and small vans more than 10 years old to get US$3,036 off the price of a brand new vehicle when scrapping their old vehicle.
