Sears recalls reusable shopping bags

TORONTO — Sears Canada (TSX: SCC) is recalling some of its reusable shopping bags over concerns about the level of lead in them.

The bags have been sold in three sizes — small medium and large — and contain levels of lead that do not meet Sears standards.

The bags sold between July and December have a white background with a large green maple leaf and words appearing across the entire design.

Sears is asking customers to stop using the bags and return them to the nearest store for a refund.

The retailer says it issued the recall in the interests of consumer safety.

Earlier this week, Vancouver-based Lululemon Athletica also recalled its free resusable shopping bags over lead concerns.

In that case though, the yoga-wear retailer said there was no concern over the use of the bag, only a potential environmental concern with its proper disposal.
