A chartered insolvency and restructuring professional in Red Deer has merged her practice with BDO Canada Ltd.

Sharon Stapley previously operated the Alger & Associates office in Red Deer. Alger & Associates, a corporate recovery and personal bankruptcy firm that also had offices in Calgary and Edmonton, joined national accounting firm Grant Thornton LLP effective Jan. 1.

In a news release issued Thursday, Stapley confirmed she’s merged her practice with BDO Canada on Jan. 1. The combined firm will operate under the BDO Canada name and at BDO Canada’s Red Deer premises in the Millennium Centre.

The release said merged operations will have more than 50 staff in Alberta, including 10 bankruptcy trustees in Red Deer, Edmonton, Calgary and Lethbridge.

Stapley, now a senior vice-president with BDO Canada, said the merger with BDO Canada is “a really good fit.”

“It gives us more depth and more experience to draw on, and more resources.”

Stu Hughes, the Western Canadian managing partner with BDO Canada, said in the release that the merger will allow his firm to grow its presence in Alberta, and particularly in the Red Deer region.
