Three weeks remain in which to nominate a young person or persons for the 2011 Outstanding Young Farmers Program for the Alberta/Northwest Territories region.

The program, which is held annually to recognize excellence in farming and promote the contributions of agriculture, is open to individuals, couples or managing partners/shareholders of a farm group. Nominees must be 39 or younger as of Jan. 1, 2011, and derive at least two-thirds of their gross revenue from farming. The winner for the Alberta/Northwest Territories will advance to the National Awards Program.

Geoff Hoar, who operates San Emideo Ranch Corp. near Innisfail, was named Alberta’s Outstanding Young Farmer for this region in 2009. And the following year, two of the four finalists were from Central Alberta: Patrick and Cherylynn Bos of Rock Ridge Dairies at Ponoka, and Tamara and Mark Taylor of Ravenwood Farm Fresh Meats at Caroline.

Nominations for the 2011 program close Oct. 15.
