TD Canada Trust will be open for business this Sunday at 303 branches across Canada, including 29 in Alberta. One of these will be the Village Mall location in Red Deer, at 6320 50th Ave.

Sunday hours at the branches affected will be noon to 4 p.m.

Monique Bateman, TD’s senior vice-president, prairie region, said the decision to move to seven-day banking was motivated by customer feedback.

“Given their busy lives, customers have told us that they really appreciate the ability to do their banking at a branch that suits their schedule.

“The demand is definitely there.”

Branches chosen for Sunday service were selected on the basis of traffic patterns and demand. Using these criteria, the Village Mall branch was included, said Bateman.

Sunday banking may be new to Red Deer residents, but its been available for a couple years elsewhere in Canada. CIBC introduced seven-day banking in 2007, but currently only offers the service at about 50 branches — primarily in Ontario and British Columbia.

TD Canada Trust has about 1,100 branches in Canada, but Bateman doesn’t expect Sunday banking to spread to other locations in the near future.

“At this point, we really don’t have plans to open any more branches on Sunday. We’ve done a lot of research over a couple of years now and really looked at where does it make sense and where are our customers ready for Sunday banking as well.”

In addition to its new Sunday hours, the TD Canada Trust outlet at Village Mall is open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.
