Tabi winding up Red Deer operation

Tabi International’s 20-year run in Red Deer will wind up at the end of May.

Tabi International’s 20-year run in Red Deer will wind up at the end of May.

Staff at the women’s clothing store, located across from Toys “R” Us in Bower Place Shopping Centre, were notified on April 7 that their store is closing.

Tabi has been in the mall since November of 1999, said store manager Donna Ternes. She’s now weighing options for the path her life will take after the store closes.

Regular customers and the store’s five full- and part-time staff are struggling with the impact of the decision, made at its head office in Toronto.

“It’s like family here,” said Ternes.

She was not allowed to say why the store is being closed.

Vice-president Ann Matyi from the chain’s head office could not be reached for comment.

Customers will still be able to shop at one of Tabi’s other locations in Alberta, said Ternes. These include stores in Banff, Calgary, Edmonton, Medicine Hat and Sherwood Park.
