Renovations to a historic downtown building continue, with several tenants now committed to the site.
The building on the northwest corner of Gaetz Avenue and 48th Street (Alexander Way) has been undergoing interior work, with significant exterior changes planned as well.
Dale Trueman of Re/Max Real Estate Central Alberta, is the building’s leasing agent. He confirmed that four tenants are in place, but declined to elaborate.
Trueman added that additional space remains in the 16,000-square-foot, single-storey building. Negotiations with other prospective occupants are ongoing, he said.
Once the home of the old Red Deer Motors, the building housed Monsieur Wong’s restaurant from 1981 until earlier this year.
The focus of the work has been indoors until now, with the exterior renovations expected to begin shortly, said Trueman.
“Some of the tenants want to be in there by next month.”
Plans for the building’s facade include a stucco finish with cultured stone accents, a tower structure on the southeast corner and gables above the entrances.
Monsieur Wong’s has relocated to shared premises with Sam’s Cafe South at 1927 50th Ave.
