CALGARY — TransCanada Corp. said Monday it has wrapped up construction on its US$350-million Kibby Wind project in Maine.

The 132-megawatt wind farm was completed on time and on budget, the Calgary-based pipeline and utility giant said in a release.

Located in Eustis, Maine, the power plant can generate enough electricity to power some 50,000 homes.

“We’re pleased to officially add the Kibby Wind Power Project to our portfolio as it is another example of TransCanada’s progress toward becoming the leading energy infrastructure company in North America,” said TransCanada CEO Russ Girling.

“We are proud to help Maine meet its energy needs and support its goal of 2,000 megawatts of clean, renewable in-state energy generation by 2015.”

TransCanada is North America’s largest shipper of natural gas, with 60,000 kilometres of pipeline criss-crossing the continent. It also has a growing power generation business.

TransCanada shares rose seven cents to C$37.74 in Monday trading on the Toronto Stock exchange.
